When faced with danger, do we retreat in fear or walk forward in faith?

The sun broke over Amboseli, gilding the vast plains in molten gold. A mist lingered low, clinging to the land as if reluctant to part. In the distance, I saw a lone bull elephant moving with steady purpose, his massive form silhouetted against the dawn. He moved with quiet confidence, each step pressing into the damp earth as if it belonged to him alone.

Then, the shift. A flicker of movement in the golden grasses—lionesses. A whole pride lay sprawled in the morning light, their amber eyes narrowing as the great tusker unknowingly wandered toward them.

The silence stretched, taut as a bowstring. Yet, the elephant did not hesitate. His presence was a declaration. “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil…” (Psalm 23:4).

Safari photography is a game of patience and reverence. Capturing moments like these demands more than a camera—it requires understanding. Amboseli, the “Land of Giants,” has long been home to Africa’s most powerful creatures, where the Maasai people walk among them, bound to the land.

The lions did not move. They watched. And the elephant, unbothered, continued on, his path unwavering. I pressed the shutter, knowing I had captured not just an image, but a story of faith and fearless grace.
