How does one capture the spirit of a place where legends are born?

The cool September air wrapped around me as I stood on the edge of the University of Oklahoma campus, the first light of dawn stretching across the horizon. Before me loomed the majestic Memorial Stadium, affectionately known as The Palace on the Prairie. The quiet was punctuated by the distant chime of the clock tower and the soft rustling of leaves, creating a symphony only nature could compose.

Setting up my drone, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. Photographing at sunrise added layers of complexity—the changing light, the need for precise timing, and the challenge of operating the drone smoothly in the gentle morning breeze. As the drone ascended, the campus unfolded beneath me like a well-kept secret. The stadium’s empty seats awaited the roar of Boomer Sooner chants, a testament to the passionate spirit of Sooner Nation.

I thought about the rich history of this place. From its humble beginnings to becoming a powerhouse in college athletics, OU has always embodied the slogan, “There’s only one Oklahoma.” The recent move to join the SEC Conference signaled a new era, a bold step forward that resonated with the university’s legacy of excellence.

Flying over the South Oval, the iconic buildings seemed to whisper stories of generations past. Every corner of the campus echoed with catchphrases like “Champions are made here” and “Live on, University,” reinforcing the pride that comes with being a part of this community.

As the sun cast a golden hue over The Palace on the Prairie, I captured the perfect shot—a blend of history, culture, and breathtaking beauty. Immersing myself in this experience was more than just a photographic endeavor; it was a journey into the heart of what makes OU extraordinary.

Bringing the drone back down, I felt a profound connection to this place where dreams are nurtured and legends truly are born.
