I stand in awe, staring up at the towering 16th-century Tolbooth houses in Edinburgh, Scotland. The last rays of the setting sun paint the stone structures a deep blue, casting long shadows across the ancient cobblestone streets. I quickly set up my camera, adjusting the settings for the perfect shot during blue hour.
The cool evening air brushes against my cheeks, carrying the scent of salt from the nearby sea and the faint aroma of roasting meat from a nearby pub. I can hear the distant chatter of locals and tourists alike, their footsteps echoing off the narrow alleyways.
As I snap my first shot, I can't help but think of the rich history these houses hold. Built in the 1500s, they served as a center of civic government and a place of punishment for criminals. The museum inside, The People's Story, tells the story of the lives of the people of Edinburgh from the late 1700s to the present day.
I continue to take photos, each one capturing a different angle and perspective of the striking architecture. I zoom in on the intricate carvings and statues adorning the exterior, and pan out to include the bustling city in the background.
As the last light of the day fades, I pack up my camera and make my way inside the museum. Inside, I am transported back in time as I explore the exhibits, learning about the daily lives of the people of Edinburgh through the centuries. The musty smell of old books and the creak of wooden floorboards add to the historical atmosphere.
Exhausted but exhilarated, I exit the Tolbooth houses and make my way back to my hotel. As I reflect on the epic experience of capturing the beauty and history of these ancient structures during blue hour, I know that these photos will be forever etched in my memory, and in the pages of history.
